Anders Liljegren (co-founder, board member, administrative manager and archivist at AFU) was born in Norrkoping in 1950.
Since June 2012 he is an “almost full-time” pensioner who dedicates most of his spare time to the AFU foundation. Before that he worked 42 years for the Norrkoping community-owned real estate company Hyresbostäder, mainly with computers, systems design and improving administration.
Anders was among the founding members of UFO-Sweden in 1970, and co-founder (in March 1973, with Håkan Blomqvist and Kjell Jonsson) of Arbetsgruppen för ufologi, the predecessor to Archives for UFO Research foundation (constituted on January 12, 1980).
When the life-time project of building the AFU archives has permitted, Anders has been involved in the study of several Swedish close encounters, particularly the Domsten case (Swedish booklet written with Clas Svahn) and the Mariannelund (Gideon Johansson) humanoid case. One of the first researchers in Sweden to gain access to the formerly secret government archives on the waves of “ghost fliers” (1930’s) and “ghost rockets” (1946). Hundreds of articles & reviews published in Swedish and English.
From 1976 he edited the AFU Newsletter, which ended with issue 52 in 2008 and is now replaced with regular news & updates on this web page. Anders has a private interest in history. especially maritime history (since age 15 he is a member of Klubb Maritim) and aviation history (a longtime member of Svensk Flyghistorisk Förening).
Anders is the principal manager and executive at AFU, also responsible for it’s economy and personnel. Anders has designed and continues to develop the PhenCode classification for the AFU library (previously called UfoCode).
When time has permitted, Anders has contributed essays to several international compilations of historical UFO Research: “UFOs 1947-1987 The 40 Year Search for an explanation” (Fortean Tomes, 1987, ed. by Evans & Spencer), “Phenomenon” (Futura 1988, ed. Spencer/Evans) and “UFOs & Alien Contact”(Prometheus Books 1998, Bartholomew/Howard). In 1997, a chapter, “General Doolittle and the Ghost Rockets”, for the book UFO 1947-1997 “Fifty Years of Flying Saucers” (John Brown). The same year, a chapter on Swedish cases from 1947 for Jan Aldrichˊs “Project 1947: A preliminary report on the 1947 UFO sighting wave” (UFO Research Coalition). He is a directory board member of the EuroUFONet that attempts to connect serious European researchers and historical archives collections closer to each other. Also a member of Project 1947 and the Sign Historical Group (SHG) that attempts the same on a more global level.
